Description: the Mediterranean fruit fly is a diptera, 5-6 mm long. It is one of the most common fruit pests worldwide.

Number of annual generations: depending on the climate, there may up to 7-8 generations per year.

Damage: the damage is initially caused by the the female biting to lay her eggs, opening an entry way for fungi and bacteria. Similarly, the larvae make galleries inside the fruit when feeding. All this produces early ripening and fruit fall with the consequent loss of harvest.

Number of annual generations: normally, 3-5 generations a year.

Damage: larvae gnaw the surface of the fruits and penetrate them. The attacked fruit changes colour precociously and falls to the ground prematurely. They can also attack the flowers of the crop.
